Dai Walters, a leading owner in the National Hunt sphere and founder of Ffos Las Racecourse, will offer a partial dispersal of his jumping stock at the Goffs UK Spring HIT/PTP Sale on May 25.
Walters, 77, has been associated with a number of top horses over the years. Running in the name of his Walters Plant Hire firm, they include the Grade 1 winners Oscar Whiskey (Ire) and Whisper (Fr). His blue-and-white silks will be carried in Saturday's Grand National by Our Power (Ire), trained by Sam Thomas.
The owner and trainer were both involved in a helicopter crash in Wales last November in which all five people on board survived but which left Walters with serious injuries. Having spent a number of months in hospital, he has now returned home to continue his recovery.
Commenting on the 25-strong draft from the owner, which contains 19 horses in training, four mares and two stores, Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent said, “The Doncaster Spring HIT/PTP Sale is the largest National Hunt horses-in-training sale in the world, and we are grateful to Mr Walters and his family for choosing it as an outlet for their Walters Plant Hire Partial Dispersal. The Spring Sale has hosted many high-class dispersals over the years and this draft, which will be offered along with the annual Million In Mind Dispersal in May, will certainly be among the highlights for 2023.”
All horses in the dispersal, consigned by The Hollies, will be offered without reserve on the final day of the sale.
